Standalone Sunday

June 25, 2017 3 Comments

Standalone Sunday is a weekly meme created by Megan@bookslayerReads. This meme is about a Standalone book (that is not part of a series) that you loved and would recommend.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Everything about this book is beautiful, from the writing to the illustrations by Jim Kay.. it’s an experience to read and I would highly recommend getting the Illustrated edition if you can, both elements together really add to the story.

I loved the voices of the characters and the story really packs a lot of emotion, i’d heard from other peoples reviews that tissues might be needed, they weren’t kidding.

I recently read Patricks newest release ‘RELEASE’  last month, which was also excellent.

I can’t wait to go back and read more of his earlier works in the future, what’s your favourite Ness book?

Goodreads synopsis: The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.

Hope you’re all having a great weekend!

I never get to classics, like EVER. It’s my bookworm guilt…I try to read a classic every once in a while, but I think I’d really like this book. I’ve only read really basic classics like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (it throws me off how they changed the name for the movie), Wizard of Oz, To Kill A Mockingbird, etc. I didn’t even feel like I enjoyed TKAM as much as I was supposed to, but don’t get me wrong, I thought it was good. And by the way, your blog is GORGEOUS. It looks so professional, it could actually be, I don’t know, a legitimate famous bookish website lol. Also your bookstagram is like aesthetically PLEASING. Seriously. HOW CAN SUCH PERFECTION EXIST? Sorry I sound crazy, but I envy your photography skills and your blog hahahaha.
