Hey everyone, hope you’ve all had a great weekend.
Today I’m going to talk about my first experience at YALC (young adult literature convention) that takes place at the Kensington Olympia, inside LFCC and a haul of everything I got.
The build up of excitement for this was real, I was so happy to be attending this year, when I couldn’t go last year I was pretty disappointed.
Before going, I did as much preparation as I could, making myself a loose schedule so my mind didn’t go completely blank when I walked in, putting the books I wanted signed in order of when I would get them signed throughout the day in my bag, putting publisher notifications on within the twitter app and finding out which proofs certain publishers would be giving out that day, so I knew what to look out for.
I think the thing I was so unprepared for was how much running would be involved for proofs etc, it was pretty exhausting, as the day went on I started getting a bit delirious about which publisher stand was where, because I was all over the place, oops.
Overall though, I’m pretty happy with everything I managed to do/get in one day, I didn’t think I’d manage to do it all.
So happy I got all of these, a few involved a lot of running. For there’s someone inside your house I sprinted the hardest for and I’m glad I did, when I got there I picked up the second to last one! For Zenith I had to sit outside the HQ stand for like an hour or so, until it got announced.
the. Godsgrave. Poster. I picked it up from the Harper stand and its not sitting up on my wall! Along with the SJM poster. I also love the pillowcase I won from the Fairyloot stand, its too pretty.
Sidenote: I put all my new swag up yesterday and love this new setup so much more than what it looked like previously.
So excited about these!!
It only happens in the movies is one of my most anticipated for this year, I’m holly bourne trash at this point.
I’m looking forward to reading the floored sampler too and trying to guess which author wrote which section.
All. The. Crooked. Saints. That is all.
Finally the books I bought myself:
I planned to buy Daughter of the burning city at yalc, it’s a book I’ve been hearing so much about lately and the cover is gorgeous!
Red rising is one of those books where I feel like I’m the only person who hasn’t read this series yet, so as I was standing at the Hodder stand I thought why not pick it up now, after the announcement of the new book, iron gold.
Hodder was doing 3 for £10, so I also picked up these two Becky Chambers books, I actually picked up The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet, in Waterstones a couple of weeks ago, but never ended up purchasing it. So I’m happy I have it now.
After reading The Next Beginning by Lauren James a couple of months ago, and being completely blown away, I now need to read everything by this author, so I was really excited when Walkerbooks announced that her new book The Loneliest Girl In The Universe would be out early at YALC, I actually missed the first drop of this book in the morning and had to wait till a few hours later to get my copy, that’s how in demand it was at the pop up Waterstones.
City Of Saints & Thieves is another one of those books I meant to buy a while ago, but never got around to it. Better late than never though, I guess.
To sum the day up, it was a lot of fun, definitely takes it out of you though! but I got to meet/talk to so many amazing people, i’m sad its over.
bring on YALC 2018!
