Hey guys, I thought I would try something different today. I thought it would be fun to go back in time [via goodreads] and see what I WAS reading at this time last year and previous years. Some of these it feels crazy that I read them so long ago, because the stories and characters have stuck with me.
In September 2016 I was reading..
How Hard Can Love Be? by Holly Bourne.
I was in the midst of what became one of my favourite bunch of contemporary books. I ended up binging all 3 of the then published books (Am I Normal Yet?, How Hard Can Love Be? and What’s A Girl Gotta Do) the writing was so addicting, these books are full of themes of self-discovery, feminism, friendship & love. I was obsessed with the American camp setting, schools/camps are probably my favourite kind of setting. At this point, I will read anything Holly writes. I can’t wait to read her newest book ‘It Only Happens In The Movies’ out in October!
In September 2015 I was reading..
The Young Elites by Marie Lu & Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella.
Aaah, The Young Elites, another series I still haven’t finished. (I only have one book left I’m not sure what’s wrong with me, why am I like this). I really enjoyed this first book, the premise is so dark and mysterious, with a world full of magic. I do really need to finish this trilogy. Talking of Marie Lu, I’m currently reading her newest release Warcross & I’m loving it so far.
Sophie Kinsella is one of my most read authors, So when I heard she had written a YA novel I pretty much freaked out. Unsurprisingly I ended up loving the book. Sophie just has this way of writing characters that are instantly relatable and have you in stitches with their humor and dialogue. As someone who had struggled with anxiety since my early school years, I saw myself a lot in the main character Audrey and the way she reacted to certain situations. I personally really liked how Sophie portrayed anxiety and felt a connection. In terms of my favourite adult novels by Sophie I recommend ‘My Not So Perfect Life’ & ‘Can You Keep A Secret?’
In September 2014 I was reading..
Clockwork Angel (for the first time!)
What a time this was when I was binging The Shadowhunter books, having a blast. These books hold a special place in my heart and what’s funny is I just finished a reread of this book on September 4th! I’m so glad i’m taking the time to read these again, there are so many little details that younger me missed.
This was so interesting to look back on, especially because I happen to be reading books by these authors right as we speak. I might make this a monthly post!
