I’ve Seen this tag floating around the blog-sphere, I have no idea who started it though, so credit to the original maker. As I was going to do a ‘favourites’ post anyway, this tag is the perfect way to sum everything up.
First question is..
Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?
Straight in with the toughest question, huh.
For this i’m going with The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it’s another book that I can’t stop thinking about, I’ve literally been recommending this book to everyone I know. In my review I wrote: ‘Every once in a while, I read a book that I know will stick with me for a long time, reading the first few chapters I remember feeling very emotional, I physically couldn’t put this book down. The Hate U Give is relevant, important, heartbreaking and honest.’ I can’t wait to read more from Angie in the future.
“What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn’t be?”
Second question is..
+ Best Sequel of 2017 so far?
I haven’t actually read a 2017 sequel yet this year! i’m hoping to get to Our Dark Duet by V.E. Schwab pretty soon though, which i’m pretty sure is going to slay my life.
+ New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?
Well there’s about 3456432 books I could put for this one, I could easily say Our Dark Duet again, but to switch it up, i’m going with Queens Of Geek by Jen Wilde. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book. f/f. bisexual MC and anxiety/autistic MC. Also the cover is STUNNING. need to read this soon.
+ Most Anticipated Release of the Second Half of 2017?
Without question. Wonder Woman Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo. (NOTABLE MENTION TO THE LANGUAGE OF THORNS TOO) All I can say is wonder woman?? Leighs writing?? i’m not ready for this.
+ Biggest Disappointment?
I’m going to have to go with Windfall by Jennifer E. Smith, the premise of this book had so much potential, I mean think of all of the possibilities of a story about winning the lottery? The characters fell flat for me, the romance in the book was actually quite frustrating, I didn’t connect with it.
+ Biggest Surprise?
The next together by Lauren James! I decided to pick this up randomly via Ebook and started enjoying it so much I went to Waterstones the next day and bought the physical copy. This book has such a cool format that reading on a device wasn’t doing it justice. An incredibly laid out book (I’d compare slightly to how Illuminae is laid out) told through different periods in time.
+ Favourite New Author (Debut or New to You)
Angie Thomas, as I said before, I seriously loved The Hate U Give! but to switch it up i’m going with
Carlie Soroisiak, author of If Birds Fly Back (Which releases this week!), Before I picked this up, I was having some issues getting into contemporary recently, I was on a bit of a fantasy streak, but I was instantly hooked into the story and the writing. I can’t wait to see what Carlie Writes in the future because I will for sure be picking it up.
+ Newest Fictional Crush?
Connecting to the previous question, I’m going to go with Sebastian from If Birds Fly Back, who is just the cutest geekiest human and I live for his awesome t-shirts and his love for physics <3.
+ Newest Favourite Character?
Can I really count this as new? IM SAYING IT ANYWAY. INEJ GHAFA, from the Six Of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo. Literally queen of my life. the wraith <3. Every second Inej was in SOC/CK I was always thinking to myself, this woman is just so BADASS.
+ Book That Made You Happy?
This summer i’ve been rereading The Mortal Instruments series and i’m literally having the best time. I love these characters and the world so much, I have so many memories attached to these books.
+ Favourite Book to Movie Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year?
I haven’t actually seen one yet, I really want to watch the everything everything movie soon though.
+ Favourite Review You’ve Written This Year?
I’m going with A Quiet Kind Of Thunder by Sara Barnard
+ Most Beautiful Book You Bought or Received So Far This Year?
That would have to be Strange The Dreamer by Lani Taylor, I have the stunning limited UK edition and its truly something else. The small details matter people!
What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?
I really want to finish my reread of The Shadowhunter Chronicles, along with this i’m going with..
The Passenger Duology, The Grisha Trilogy, literally everything else by Lauren Oliver I haven’t read yet.
What’s been your favourite books of the year so far?
