* I was sent a copy by the publisher in exchange for a review (Thank you to Harper Voyager) *
Let me start off by saying that A Torch Against The Night is a very solid sequel to An Ember In The Ashes, which I first read last year and Absolutely loved. The sequel offers everything I loved about the first book, Violence, plot twists & great world building..
In addition to this there is a whole sense of Adventure involved with the Journey to Kauf, new characters you meet along the way & a whole new perspective you get to see (Helene).
I didn’t think it was possible but I found that this book was more heart breaking that the first, there was so many frustrating and emotional moments that all of these characters had to go through, you really felt for them.
Elias and Laia are pushed to the limit in this book, with some interesting discoveries along the way!
I specifically enjoyed a whole new turn for Elias, it was really unique to read about and I am sure we will learn more about it in the third book!
I really enjoyed seeing from Helene’s POV, now that she is Blood Shrike, she has to go through and sacrifice so much for the Empire. One of the new characters introduced is Harper, who accompanies Helene on her journeys, he was very interesting to try and figure out, at the start you just didn’t know who he held his allegiance to and if he could be trusted.
A character I wish we got to see more of is The Commandment, she is literally pure evil and frustrating, but its so badass to read, I hope we get to see more of her in the third book.
Can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.
